About

Welcome to Baby Proofed Parents, a free online resource for strengthening your relationship and maintaining your emotional health – before, during and after your baby’s arrival… and beyond.

BPP was founded in 2013 by two Licensed Professional Counselors, Kirsten Brunner & Cheryl Tyler. They shared a passion for delivering sanity-saving and relationship-strengthening tools that new parents don’t always get in their childbirth classes. While Cheryl has turned her attention to expanding their private practice, Kirsten has continued to develop the Baby Proofed Parents philosophy, blog and workshop series.

Kirsten Brunner, MA, LPC

Kirsten Brunner, MA, LPC lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, two sons and her dog, Jake. (Yes, she is outnumbered in her family!) She has been actively providing therapy and life coaching for 20 years, first in a corporate setting and now in a private practice. Kirsten is a regular contributor to Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Woman’s Day and TODAY Parents. Her writing has also been featured in The Atlantic, Real Simple Magazine and Mamalode. She works with clients, in person and over Skype, on a wide variety of issues, but has enjoyed becoming a Reproductive & Perinatal Mental Health Specialist in recent years. Her first book, co-authored with Brian the Birth Guy, The Birth Guy’s Go-To Guide for New Dads is slated for launch on February 2nd, 2019.

Why this website is here: Kirsten and Cheryl noticed several years ago that there was a gaping hole in the parenting-preparedness industry. Couples could take child-birth, breastfeeding, and infant-care classes, but it was hard to find support for keeping their emotional health or partnership intact while parenting. The truth is that Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) affect at least 1 out of 7 new mothers. Forty percent of new parents report that their relationship has been negatively impacted by the addition of children. Kirsten is determined to do more to address these statistics. She provides tools, advice, wisdom and laughs to anyone embarking on the parenting adventure.

Who this website is for: If you are contemplating pregnancy or adoption, already pregnant, in the throws of life with a new baby, a mother of 5, a father-to-be, married, single, a same-sex couple… you get it… and Baby Proofed Parents is here to support you with tools and resources to strengthen your emotional health and relationships.

What this website offers: Kirsten’s goal is to empower parents by reminding them of their strength and resilience.  She provides workshops and gives talks for expectant and new parents who want to fortify their emotional health and their parenting partnerships. She also provides ongoing support on this website in the form of tips, bits of wisdom and inspiring interviews.  All of this is infused with authenticity and transparency.

Have questions?: Contact Kirsten for more information on her counseling services, speaking engagements or partnership opportunities.

Oh, one last thing…  Looking for the fine print?
